Why do I have to submit?
We are eager to find out what YOUR band is all about! We want you to put your best foot forward and get us excited about your music, your fan base, your live show, etc. Show us how great of a band you are so we can put you on the same bill as the great national acts Dirt Fest is proud to host!
Why is there a fee?
Giving a fair review of an artist’s material takes at least 15-30 minutes per band. We listen to your songs, visit your websites, read your press reviews, and more. Hundreds of bands submit each year and every submission is carefully reviewed by our staff and then given to Dirt Fest’s promoters Matt Dalton and Andy Dalton for final consideration. The fee covers costs such as our Submission Staff’s time and postage related to subsequent correspondence.
Our band doesn’t have a press kit. Is that absolutely necessary?
Yes. Keep in mind a press kit is essentially your band’s resume or “First Impression” to any promoter. A professional press kit (including photos, biography, 3-song sampler, full length album, links to websites) allows you to present any information you’d like and put that right in front of the person who will decide whether or not they’d like to work with you. The more effort you put into your press kit, the better the impression you leave. It’s a testament to how seriously you take your band, and how strong your work ethic is. Not to mention the fact that once you assemble your press kit to meet Dirt Fest’s requirements, you’ll have that for use when approaching any other promoter, label owner, etc. In other words, if you don’t have a press kit yet you kill multiple birds with one stone by making one for Dirt Fest!
Does submitting guarantee my band a slot on Dirt Fest?
No. We have a limited amount of stage time to allow for independent artists, so we have to be selective. Bands are chosen based on a number of factors including presentation of press kit, quality of recording, quality of performance, and other criteria. However, we understand that not everyone has the same resources and opportunities as everyone else s we take many things into consideration and promise to give your band a thorough review and sporting chance. After all, we’re here to help bring your band to the next level!
WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO HEAR BACK FROM DIRTĀ FEST?
Sometimes hearing back from us can take anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks depending on the number of submissions we have to go through at any given time. You will ALWAYS hear back from us whether the answer is a yes or a no. We at Dirt Fest pride ourselves on communication, and we won’t leave you wondering. If the answer is yes, we will move forward with you, and if the answer is no, we are happy to let you know why we felt it wasn’t right and offer some tips for future consideration!
